Gravy Baby

Mar 24, 2022

Today we are joined by writer, director, and reluctant actor Wyatt Scott. Wyatt speaks with us about their upcoming play "Machine Yourself." The play is based on a short story ("The Girl Who Was Plugged In" by James Tiptree Jr.) that moved Scott to tears the first time they read it. We cover what it means to adapt a story into a play, how you take a story that is both so much your own but also literally someone else's and do both artists justice, and how one tells a story as a writer, playwright, director, and actor. This episode covers identity (non-binary and otherwise), sci-fi, the struggle to create, and even the financial industry. You can catch "Machine Yourself" April 2 at 2:00 and 5:00 pm online at and in person at the Barber Shop Theater in Nashville, TN. All tickets are donation-based and proceeds go to Appalachian OUTreach, a non-profit that helps LGBTQ+ youth in East Tennessee.
